About Angie
November 9, 2006Hello, my name is Angie Largen and this is my last year at UAF. I will be receiving my BS in biochemistry but I love studying languages as well and am excited to start learning arabic.
Hmmm… let’s see… I’ve lived in Fairbanks my entire life but enjoy traveling when I get the chance. I spent last summer in Costa Rica studying Spanish and volunteering at a small clinic. In my free time I like to read, go running, hiking, biking, snowboarding… pretty much anything outside. I also love ballroom dancing, my personal favorites are West Coast swing and salsa.
A little about Mike Nelson
November 9, 2006Hello, My name is Mike Nelson. I have always wanted to learn a foreign language, so I am excited to be in Beginning Arabic. It is a very relevant language these days. I have gotten word that I will be going to Iraq with the US Army in July, so Arabic will be extra helpful for me.
I was born in Chicago, IL in 1961. I came to Alaska in the Army in 1981 and have been here pretty much ever since. I work as a Firefighter in Clear. I live in Nenana with my wife RJ. My daughter is 17 and is attending advanced individual training with the AK Air National Guard. My hobbies are reading, flying, gold prospecting, and fishing.

About Audrey
November 2, 2006Hi, I’m Audrey Johnson. I’m nineteen years old and this is my third year taking courses through UAF. Right now I’m a Linguistics major so I’m very excited to see what I’ll learn from this class. I live in Dutch Harbor and have been here for just shy of 4 years.
I’ve been teaching myself to play the acoustic guitar for about two years now and I really enjoy it (I’m the proud owner of a beautiful Baby Taylor). I also am a vocalist whenever I get the chance and singing is something I really love to do. I like to read and even dabble in a little bit of writing on occasion. I love to be outside and go hiking daily with my blue heeler, Gunni. I also like to snowskate, horseback ride, play volleyball, go four-wheeling, beach-comb, and just enjoy each day as it comes. This summer I did some rock climbing and now I’m hooked.
I’m taking Arabic right now in part because of my focus on Linguistics and more importantly because I expect to be working in humanitarian aid in the Middle East within the next year.
